Real Estate

Selling your home can be a daunting task, especially for a first time seller. There are so many real estate companies, brokers and agents to choose from, it’s hard to know where to start.  We at 411Information Online have compiled a list of tips to help you begin the search for the right real estate agent.

  1. More experience does not always mean a better agent. Someone who has over 30+ years of experience but who is hard to get along with is not someone that you want working with you. Depending on how long it takes to sell your house, you could be spending quite a bit of time with each other. You’re going to want an agent that is personable, good at negotiating and not afraid to go to bat for you.
  2. Speak to other homeowners about a referral. Ask your parents, friends, neighbours or even colleagues who they would recommend to use and why.  Having an agent that has already sold/bought a house for someone you know is one of the best ways to go about looking for an agent.
  3. Contact multiple agents and setup interviews before committing to a specific one. Be sure to ask any and all questions that may come to mind. Alternatively, you also want a real estate agent who asks you questions as well. The more information your real estate agent has about what you are looking to get, the better informed they will be to help you.
  4. Look for any red flags before signing with a realtor. Don’t immediately sign with the first realtor who will list your house at a higher price. Typically, a higher listed house will sit on the market for longer than one that’s reasonably listed. The longer a house sits on the market, the more you will have to drop your price. Don’t book with an agent who only does real estate part-time, you’re going to want someone who is available to show your home to prospective buyers.
